DONATE YOUR TIME!
The Jane Stern Dorado Community Library runs on volunteer input! Our volunteers enable the library’s staff to function more effectively. They bring us program ideas, help prepare books for shelving, plan activities, decorate for holidays, help library clients use computers, translate library documents and notices, help with Jane’s Way or Story Time activities for children, perform circulation tasks and provide us with all kinds of expertise. Our annual Vino di Mare fundraising gala is sustained by a talented group of board members and volunteers who participate as a group on committees covering all aspects of this spectacular event.
JSDCL STUDENT VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
Students from both public and private schools satisfy their community service requirements at JSDCL, constituting a major source of day-to-day volunteer help. Contact Jacqueline Acevedo for information and available times at (787) 796-3675
This year we are recruiting responsible students to commit to a “real job” setting by giving us sustained help in two major after-school areas. We want Computer Lab Assistants and Children’s Area Assistants who can commit to specific after-school hours on a regular schedule.
After-School Computer Lab Assistant:
The library’s computer labs fill with intermediate and high school students completing their assignments. Our lab assistants help library computer users to research and complete their work and print their projects. Student volunteers will be trained to use all the resources of the programs Destiny (to look for books/information the library has) and all Britannica Online research resources.
After School Children’s Area Assistant
JSDCL has a children’s area with books, toys and games. We often have children in the area whose parents wish to use a computer or others who are waiting for parent pick-ups. Student volunteers help keep children from running and jumping on the furniture as well as to find books or other activities to keep them occupied. Helping children pick up their toys at the end of the afternoon and shelving books are part of the job.
DONATE YOUR BOOKS!
JSDCL depends on book donations to keep its collections relevant, and we are anxious to build our media collections. Good material that we cannot use is either donated to other libraries or sold through our “For Sale” section near the front desk.
Materials in good condition in English and Spanish that are gently used and not moldy, dusty, damaged, or bug infested. Here are some guidelines:
Fiction: in hardback and paperback. We particularly welcome new popular fiction!
Nonfiction: subject matter that is historical or otherwise relevant and timely.
In addition to books, we accept donations of media and assorted printed material, including:
We Do Not Accept:

Tax deductible donations for books, services and programs and other library purposes are gratefully accepted and acknowledged.
